Grab Your Copy of Destiny Redeemed This Weekend #PNR #Kindle

Destiny Redeemed is FREE August 10-12, so grab your copy this weekend and meet one of my favorite heroes, Amon Kalins. Here's the blurb:

Sentenced to spend the rest of his three remaining lifetimes in Nil, Amon Kalins is freed with the help of his Sidhe servant, Gethen, but now he must accept his life is never to be his again as the Council won't rest until he's safely back imprisoned within Nil's cold walls. Broken and nearly dead from his time in prison, Amon is saved by an Aeveren healer named Althea Forester. As a healer, Thea has served her people for forty-five lifetimes, never having a destined one and always knowing each lifetime would ultimately end with her alone. But destiny hasn't forgotten her.

Drawn to the seductive Amon, Thea quickly becomes a pawn the Council uses to trap him. Taken prisoner by the sadistic leader of the rebel group, the Soren, Thea must survive the vicious world of the people hell-bent on taking her destined one away forever, and Amon must risk everything dear to him to free her from those who would sacrifice her to claim the bigger prize and return him to Nil.

Blood Avenged On #Audiobook #PNR

Happy Friday, everyone! It's going to be a snowy one in the Northeast here, but it's February and that's expected. We just have to grin and bear it. It's been a great week for me, and the title of this post is one of the reasons why. Blood Avenged is finally out in audiobook!

The narrator John and I began working on this project in October. Things got in the way and I think at some point both of us must have wondered if this book was ever going to get into audio. But I loved his voice, so I decided to stick it out and see what happens. I'm so glad I did. He just did an incredible job, and Vasilije has never sounded so sexy.

I have to admit that hearing the words I wrote made me blush more than once. That book is HOT, if I do say so myself. LOL  To hear a preview of the book, be sure to check it out online at Amazon, Audible, and iTunes.

It's just too cool that one of my books can now be heard in addition to read. I guess I'm sort of nerdy with that stuff, but it really puts a smile on my face. And a huge thanks to John Lazaro, the man with the oh-so-deep-and-sexy voice who did an incredible job narrating!

In addition to that great news is a new cover for Destiny Redeemed. Weeeeeee! I have to admit I loved the old cover, but I wondered if it was time for an update, so I contacted designer extraordinaire, Talina Perkins, and told her to have at it, with only one caveat: the model for Amon must stay (I love him! Mmmmmm....).  The result is just perfect! She used her creative genius to design a background that reflected her vision of Nil, the Aeveren prison where Amon begins Destiny Redeemed, and I love it! I haven't changed the cover yet at the retailers, but you can get a free copy of the book with the original cover at all the major outlets right now. Happy reading!

And last, but certainly not least, is the news that Blood Prophecy, the 4th novel in the Sons of Navarus series, is complete at 81K words. For those of you wondering, that's 21K longer than Blood Avenged and nearly 16K words more than Blood Betrayed and Blood Spirit.

This baby is big!

Blood Prophecy is a turning point in the series, and there's so much story the book is busting at the seams. Readers will get the love affair between Ramiel and his heroine, in addition to the non-romantic storyline of Ramiel and Thane searching for the key to the Prophecy of Idolas; more on Verrater, who the last we heard had plans to kidnap Solenne; more on Vasilije and Sasa, who have been having some problems as of late (if you haven't read the two shorts Longing and The Deepest Cut, be sure to grab those before Blood Prophecy comes out); an introduction really to Sion and Kali, who are falling for each other but very different characters to anyone else in the series; and last but not least, a brand new main character who will be with the series from now on, in addition to the other paranormal characters who will be joining the Sons in their fight against the Archons. Oh, and there's even a Greek god in on the action!

Yeah, it's big. Look for Blood Prophecy this spring, and in the months leading up to its release, I'll be touring around the blogs talking about all things Sons as readers get ready to read the biggest Sons of Navarus book yet.

Whew! It's been quite a week. I need a day off. Now if only that snow would get here maybe my school would cancel classes and I could sit back with a hot chocolate and relax.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Looking For Something New in #PNR? Get Destiny Redeemed

Looking for something new in paranormal romance and FREE? If you're not in the mood for vampires and shifters and crave a different take on PNR, grab my book Destiny Redeemed for free at Smashwords! The story focuses on the Aeveren, beings descended from humans but definitely not human. Blessed with the gift of reincarnation, they live fifty lives before passing on. Some have abilities like time travel, telepathy, and mind control, while others possess less manipulative abilities. And all Aeveren have destined ones, fellow Aeveren they are called to across distance and time. Steamy, sexy, and unique, Destiny Redeemed is that new thing in PNR!

Here's the blurb for Destiny Redeemed. Enjoy!

Sentenced to spend the rest of his three remaining lifetimes in Nil, Amon Kalins is freed with the help of his Sidhe servant, Gethen, but now he must accept his life is never to be his again as the Council won't rest until he's safely back imprisoned within Nil's cold walls. #ParanormalRomance Friday

It's Friday again, and the weekend is so close we can taste it. :)  Today is the last day for the Destiny Redeemed book tour and it's ending with a bang over at Salacious Reads. Thanks to all the bloggers who've been so wonderful on this tour! And I'm over at the very talented Tracey Kitt's blog doing an interview with her, so check that out too!

This week has been research week for me, and I have to admit I love this kind of week.  I've had my nose in the books (well, internet too) for Blood Spirit and a new book for my alter author ego (the non-romance one).  That's a blockbuster idea, but it's in the very early stages of infancy.  Blood Spirit, on the other hand, is set to begin with the new month.

I also spent my time trying to find models for the covers of the rest of the Sons books.  Dante, Ramiel, Thane, and Nico are all set, but Sion...he's been impossible to capture. I've complained about the photo stock sites before here, so you know how I feel about them, but damn, is it that difficult to offer a good looking man with blond hair?  I used to know someone who claimed that there were very few good looking blond men.  That's stupid, and I should've told her she was a chowderhead.  I've seen many good looking blonds in my life.  Dated a bunch of them.  However, it seems there's a dearth of them on stock photo sites.  I have one I'd love to use, but Talina and I are still working on him.  We'll see...
Last, but not least, the date for Blood Betrayed's release has been settled.  May 24 my newest baby will enter the world.  And I've got a bunch of bloggers and reviewers who will be helping me spread the word that day about my new release.  Thanks to all of them!  I'll be talking more about that in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for that.
I have an easy day at work (all tests today), it's payday, and tonight's the season finale of Spartacus.  Do they follow the history, or will there be the historically incorrect but possibly interesting showdown where Spartacus kills Glaber?  I don't know, but it could be good. I'll be there, taking an hour out of researching for it (or an hour out of celebrating my Megamillions half a billion win).

Have a great Friday, everyone!

Destiny Redeemed Book Tour Begins

While I write vampires and love them, I also write other paranormal series, including my Destined Ones series.  In fact, that series has the first character I ever truly fell in love with. Amon Kalins was the villain in the first book, Stolen Destiny, but in Destiny Redeemed, he comes back as the hero, albeit a bad boy hero.

This week I'm showing my love for Destiny Redeemed with a book tour.  Each day I'll be at a different blog talking about the book, the characters, and the concept of my paranormal creations in the Destined Ones series, the Aeveren.

The Aeveren are beings I created after having a dream one night (it's always dreams, isn't it?).  They live fifty lives through reincarnation, meaning that my characters can span centuries.  They are descended from humans, given the gift of reincarnation by the Archangel Raziel long ago.  He also gave them the gift of special powers, such as telepathy, the ability to manipulate time (a power Amon possesses), healing, and even mind control. Some Aeveren have impressive powers, while others only have simpler powers, such as heightened intuition. Finally, Raziel gave his people the gift of destined ones. But having a soul mate is complicated by reincarnation and one can go lifetimes without finding the one meant for them, knowing he or she exists but unable to finally connect until both are in the same lifetime.

In Destiny Redeemed, two of the most powerful Aeveren are the hero and heroine. Amon is in his 47th lifetime and possesses the power to change time. He can move it up, stop it, reverse it...you get the idea. He's not a man to play with.  He's been a bad man for many lifetimes, but fate has given him something that may change him. Thea.  A healer for the Aeveren people, Thea is in her 45th lifetime.  As a healer, her power is a good one, unlike her destined one's.

Taken prisoner by the sadistic leader of the rebel group, the Soren, Thea must survive the vicious world of the people hellbent on taking her destined one away forever, and Amon must risk everything dear to him to free her from those who would sacrifice her to claim the bigger prize and return him to Nil.

Lower Price For My Paperback Books

Something has changed at Createspace that has allowed me to lower the price of both paperback versions of Destiny Redeemed and The Victorian Erotic Romance Trilogy.  I'm thrilled because when I published them I'd wanted the price below $10 and couldn't do it because of Createspace's policies.  Well, now that's all changed!

New today, Destiny Redeemed and The Victorian Erotic Romance Trilogy are both now $9.99 at Createspace and should be priced the same at Amazon within a few days.  So if you're a fan of having the book in your hand when you read, you can find them at these locations.

The Victorian Erotic Romance Trilogy

Thanks to all the readers who have asked if my books are in print.  While I love my Kindle, I still love the feel of a book in my hand like you do, and I'm so happy I can offer them for a lower price.  And look for Blood Avenged in paperback coming soon!

Interviews, Vampires, and Reviews, Oh My!

Today begins a 4 day event for Blood Avenged over at Riverina Romantics.  I'm there today with an interview, and through the rest of the week, there will be an interview with Vasilije, an exclusive excerpt from the book, and the event will end with a review.  I'm giving away a copy of Blood Avenged, so be sure to enter when you stop over.  Thanks to the wonderful ladies of Riverina Romantics for having me over again!

I'm in the middle of writing the follow-up book to Blood Avenged, Blood Betrayed.  This is Declan's story, and even though I promised myself I'd take December off, he had other ideas.  So instead of beginning it now, I'm four chapters in.  If Declan, the muse, and I don't run into any snags along the way, Blood Betrayed should be out before summer rolls around.

And then there are reviews.  The Pen and Muse reviewed Blood Avenged, giving it 4 stars, and Night Owl Reviews tackled Destiny Redeemed, giving it 4.75 out of 5 stars.  Selling books is terrific, but reading that someone saw in your work what you hoped readers would is fantastic.  It doesn't always happen.  One day you're the Louisville slugger, and the next day you can be the ball.  Reviews are merely one person's opinion and it's important to not put too much stock in them lest your head get all puffed up, but it's still nice to read that someone enjoyed your story you love so much.

Hope your Tuesday sees you as the Louisville slugger!

Thursday Thoughts: The Start Of A New Series

The Destiny Redeemed book tour continues today at Urban Girl Reader with an excerpt and promo.  Thanks to Sherri for joining the tour!  Her blog is beautiful. :)

Blood Avenged is off to the betas and editor to get it ready for its December 14 release date, and I'd planned to take the month of December off from writing because I've been going nonstop literally since January.  This year has seen Destiny Redeemed, Vampire Dreams, Love's Master, Masquerade, and Blood Avenged completed. Whew! That's 214,000 words from me this year, and that's not counting all those posts, guest posts, and interviews. (Those add up, trust me.) So the idea was to take off December to give myself a little break.

There's only one problem with that...

I've got an idea for a new series that's just dying to get out.  Vasilije's story in Blood Avenged ended differently than I'd planned (quite a surprise for a plotter like me, I assure you), and it's looking like there's a new series there.  I began fleshing it out already, and I've decided on some character names and some traits.  I won't give too much away yet since it's all very early, but yes, the series is paranormal romance and it's beginning with Blood Avenged.  Plans are pretty fluid now, but I'm hoping to get the first and possibly the second books out in 2012.  They'll be novel length, set in the present, and feature powerful sires like Vasilije.

Look for more coming soon. For now I'm off to wrangle Amon for an interview with Nat from Reading Romances. ;)

A Cover Contest, Nil, and Platform 9 3/4

How's everyone doing today?  I'm feeling good, even though I have to go into work early. :(  Destiny Redeemed's book tour continues today at Getting Naught Between The Stacks .  I'm over there talking about Nil (that's where the Platform 9 3/4 figures in--check out the post to see what I mean) and the Aeveren way of life.  Thanks to Nanny for being on the tour!

Also, Destiny Redeemed is a nominee in the November 2011 Book Cover Award over at Alternative-Read.com, so if you feel so inclined, I'd love it if you'd click over there and give it your vote.

I'm off to get ready for work, but I hope everyone has a great day!  The tour is steady for the next few days, so I'll be here to shout out about it. :)

Super Saturday

Happy weekend everyone!  I love the weekend, especially when I'm about to finish typing a book.  Big smile for that one.  So much has been going on that I haven't posted much, but I'm back today for a bit.  It's been a busy week of trying to get Blood Avenged complete and to my editor and betas.  I'm thinking early this week....yay!

In other news, Destiny Redeemed received two really terrific reviews this week, one from The Romance Reviews, where it received a 4 out of 5 stars, and another from Riverina Romantics, where it received 4.5 out of 5 hearts.  Each review gushed about the world building, characters, and plot, in addition to the steamy romance, of course. :)  I've been over at Riverina Romantics all this week with their Having Fun With Gabrielle Bisset event, so check out some of the other days too while you're there (the Wednesday Hump Day Hottie was my choice and I went with Alcide. Megan did a great job of finding the most delicious pictures...okay, now I'm drooling. Just go check it out.).

Finally, the Destiny Redeemed tour continues today at the Ramblings From This Chick blog. I'm there today talking about reincarnation in paranormal romance and for a little change, the excerpt is all about the heroine, Thea.  Check it out! And don't forget the giveaway going on all month with the tour. I'm giving away seven copies of the book, so enter to win!

It's back to the typing for me today, but I'll be back next week with more tour dates and hopefully the news that Blood Avenged is complete and off to all those great people who do such a great job for my books. And I'm mulling over an idea for Thanksgiving to say "Thanks!" to all the great readers out there. Keep an eye out for that beginning November 21.

Have a great one!

Wednesday Treats

It's Wednesday, and the weekend is in full view.  I'm still in typing mode, with about 50% of Blood Avenged done.  I've been typing my little fingers to the bone! I'm a little ahead of schedule, so that's great. Yay!  Thankfully, it's an easy week at work and I can type more than grade papers or make up tests.

Today I'm at Dawn Roberto's blog, Dawn's Reading Nook, talking about my paranormal characters, so click on over there and take a look. In addition, the week of fun with me at Riverina Romantics continues with my choice for Hump Day Hottie. Can you say practically naked Alcide?  Yeah, it's definitely worth a look.  Megan outdid herself there.

Also, take a look at yesterday's review of Vampire Dreams there and the latest stop on Destiny Redeemed's book tour at Lisa's World of Books.

So what are you up to today?

A Week Long Event and Blood Avenged Complete!

Megan from Riverina Romantics contacted me a month or so ago and asked if I wanted to do a week long event at her blog.  I was so flattered!  My first event at a blogger's place. :D  Well, that week has come around.  All this week, look for excerpts, reviews, and even giveaways over there of all things Gabrielle Bisset.  Today is the Sunday Swag giveaway.  Check it out for three prize packs of signed bookmarks and cover flats. Thanks to the ladies there for such a fantastic welcome!  And isn't the graphic sweet?

In addition, Reading Between The Wines hosted Amon yesterday for a guest blog on the Destiny Redeemed book tour.  He was over there talking about his bad boy ways, which it seems may not be in the past. Thanks to the bloggers there for participating in the book tour. And don't miss the giveaway of Destiny Redeemed there too!

Finally, I'm happy to report Blood Avenged is complete.  Now it's typing time, which is a very unhappy thing.  I'm about 20% complete with that task, and when I'm finished, off it goes to the editor.  Depending on how quickly I type, it could be to her by Thanksgiving and released by early to mid-December.  Here's a little blurb to whet your appetite:

I am everything you desire.  I am vampire.

Powerful and manipulative, Vasilije does as he pleases. A vampire beholden to no one, he takes what he desires, drinking deeply the pleasures this life has to offer and reigning over his vampires as a strong and selfish protector, never forgetting the loss of his sire centuries before.

When one of his own is staked, Vasilije must travel to New Orleans to exact his revenge. There he meets Sasa, a beautiful woman who arouses him like no other has for centuries. Vasilije’s need for vengeance is equaled only by his passion for her. But when the past threatens to repeat itself, will he do what he couldn’t centuries ago?

Look for excerpts in the coming weeks.  Happy Sunday everyone!

Friday Fun

Another week has gone by already and it's time for some fun.  Today I'm at C.R. Moss's blog with an interview, and Mad Moose Mama has a promo up for Destiny Redeemed's book tour.  Check them out for some interesting stuff!  And Ing over at As The Pages Turn has a wonderful review up for Masquerade and is hosting a giveaway, so check that out too!

Finally, it's time for another Weekend Dirty Dozen. This dozen comes from the first chapter of Destiny Redeemed.  Amon is in Nil, as he's been for the past year, and this is where the reader first meets him. Enjoy!

Tiny trails of moisture trickled down the wall to the grey cement floor. The prisoner in cell 801 felt one touch his shoulder as it was stopped on its journey, and he shivered at the feel of it as it touched his tender skin. The dampness of his cell, the chill, reflected what the place had done to him. Underground, in the bowels of the Earth, he did little more than exist in this place, like a creature unwelcome in the light of the sun and home only in the cold darkness of Nil. Beneath him, the cold floor made the painful areas on his legs ache, and a dull throbbing throughout his body reminded him of the countless punishments in his time there.
The nighttime noises of Nil stabbed at him, and as they had every night for the past year, they become the terrifying soundtrack to the worst part of Amon’s time in Nil. The screams of the weak reverberated through his body, a reminder of the horrors he’d endured on so many nights there.  Not that he needed to be reminded. The pain that ran over every square inch of his skin, tactile terrors chasing after one another in a constant game of sadistic tag, never let him forget what he’d suffered through and what lie ahead in his future.
His mind drifted back to the night just after he’d arrived when the guards not only looked the other way to allow the other inmates to perform their initiation ritual on him but also told them who he’d been before being sent to Nil, as if they’d needed any encouragement for their bloodlust. Nothing in forty-seven lifetimes had been as terrifying as the hungry look in the eyes of the men who pushed him down face first on the cold, damp concrete floor while the one with the knife loomed over him. He hadn’t seen his eyes, but he’d heard his hollow laugh right before the sound of the vicious click of the blade coming out of its home made him stiffen in sheer terror.

Celebrating And What's A Kardash?

It's the middle of the workweek, so I can see the weekend from here.  Love that! November has gotten off to a great start and today continues with the celebrating Destiny Redeemed's release.  Selena over at The Enchanted Book has given the book 5 books out of 5 and ranked it a New Favorite of hers, so definitely check her post out. In addition, The Romance Reviews interview with me about the book is up now too, so click on over.  Rho asked some great questions that allowed me to expand on the background of my characters.  And while you're there, definitely check out TRR's Year End Splash event, going on all November.  I'm one of many authors and publishers who are taking part, and there are hundreds of prizes up for grabs.

And in new time measurement news, 72 days is now being called a Kardash.  I was thinking yesterday that while 30 days for NaNoWriMo doesn't work for me (I hand write and edit as I go along), I like the idea of writing a novel in a Kardash.  Perhaps that's what I'll do after the holidays.  How does this sound?
A Novel In A Kardash:  January 3-March 14

I'm liking it.  And don't feel bad for Kim now that her name has become synonymous with a relatively short period of time.  She's still fine.  LOL

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Finally, I'm one of the featured interviews at The Romance Reviews for the month of November.  TRR and I did an interview about Destiny Redeemed and the reviewer, Rho, asked some really great questions.  I'll be linking to that later this week.

It's going to be a very busy month, it seems.  And just wait until next month...

Happy Samhain!

It's October 31, and to pagans of all varieties, it's the day the veil between the spirit world and the living world is the thinnest.  Samhain is also the new year for wiccans, so enjoy the day, whatever you choose to celebrate!  I'm just back from New Orleans, and all I can say is wow...I'm going with the plan of what happens in New Orleans stays in New Orleans.  ;)  I don't know if I have anything left in me to celebrate today, but I'm going to try.

I did get some fantastic research done for the settings that will appear in Blood Avenged, and I even got half a chapter written on the plane ride home.  I'm multi-tasking, baby!

The Bewitching Trick or Treat Hop is still going on through today, so leave a comment and do as many extra entries as you'd like for a chance to win Destiny Redeemed, Vampire Dreams, and swag prizes.

While I was away, Authors Promoting Authors ran a Six of A Story interview with me about Vampire Dreams (perfect for Halloween if you like sexy instead of scary), and then it appeared in The Romance Book Club Daily and The Erotic Fantasy Gazette.  Check both out for some interesting articles and info on romance and erotica books.

Tomorrow begins the month long book tour for Destiny Redeemed, and I can't wait.  I'll be posting each day about where I am and what's new with the tour, so look for that.  And I'm one of the featured interviews in November at The Romance Reviews, so keep an eye out for that and TRR's Year End Splash event happening all month. It should be great fun!

And last, but not least, this weekend was an important one for me because I reached my 10,000th sale sometime Sunday.  I can't thank enough the readers and bloggers who have supported me this year.  That I was able to reach this milestone in just five months since the release of my first book is just incredible to me as an indie author, and all I can say is thanks and stick around because I'm just getting started.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

Weekend Dirty Dozen #1 and Other Friday Tidbits

I'm doing the Weekend Dirty Dozen, but before I get to that, here are some other tasty morsels on this Friday morning.  First, Ronda at Queentutt's World of Escapism reviewed Destiny Redeemed and the review is all that I could ever hope for with any book.  Definitely check that out. (You'll love her sexual rating scale!) Then Lola Loves Books reviewed the final novella in the Victorian Erotic Romance Trilogy, Masquerade, and made my morning again.  Thank you ladies for the wonderful reviews!

So to celebrate the great review for my newest release, Destiny Redeemed, here is my Weekend Dirty Dozen from that book. Enjoy!

“Thea, I need you. Now.”
He pushed her back gently onto the bed and ran his hands up the smooth skin of her legs as his eyes devoured the sight of her pale pink sex. His fingers reached the desired destination first and carefully explored the soft folds that glistened with moisture. With one finger, he stroked her excited nub and then traced his way to her entrance, wet and eager for him.
Desperate for a taste of her, Amon bent his head to her and touched his tongue to her clitoris, sending waves of pleasure through her body. Her hands held him to her while her fingers trailed over the shells of his ears and the nape of his neck.
A second finger joined the first inside her, and he thrust into her as he sucked her swollen nub between his lips. She tasted so good—sweet but musky—and his mouth worked to satisfy the craving she caused in him.
Beneath him, Thea’s body opened to his every stroke and desire. With every nip of his tongue and sweet invasion of his fingers, she melted into him becoming his and his alone. He felt her begin to tighten around his fingers as the walls of her core signaled her approaching climax. He pushed into her faster, his fingers stroking her to completion as his tongue sensually flicked her hardened nub. Thea’s fingers pressed against his skin behind his ears, and he heard her mew her pleasure above him.

Release Day For Destiny Redeemed

Today is the release day for Destiny Redeemed!  Excitement all around!  I'm thrilled to announce this because this has been a long time in the making.  Completed in March of this year, it's had to wait until the Victorian Erotic Romance Trilogy had its time, but now it has its chance to be the star.

The hero of
Destiny Redeemed has been one of my favorite characters to spend time with, and it's with real happiness that I release his story to the world. Amon was a character who threatened to take up all the air in the room from the moment he appeared on the page.  More than anyone else, he was the one who readers connected with in Stolen Destiny, even though he was the romantic villain.  He was just so good at being bad.

I finished writing that book last November and almost immediately began Destiny Redeemed. Even if I hadn't wanted to, he was going to make sure I did.  Ever on my mind, his story flowed through my pen and even with taking off time around Christmas, I completed writing the book by early March. Firmly intending to follow the path I'd taken with Stolen Destiny, I typed the manuscript and prepared to send it to the publisher.

Then everything changed with my publishing situation and suddenly the book was put into limbo as I began writing Vampire Dreams.  Never far from my mind, Destiny Redeemed remained on the side throughout the summer as Love's Master and then Masquerade took my attention.  Finally, after the success of those three novellas, I was ready to go back into Amon's world.

When I finally turned to it, I was a different writer than I'd been when I'd first written it, but I still loved the story as much as I had then. In the end, after some reconstruction, the story is what I'd always known it could be. So today I officially release it to the world and take down the Destiny Redeemed progress counter that has been present since I first began this blog back in January.

I hope readers enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.  Here's a little taste of Amon and Thea:

Thea watched the man in front of her with fear, but there was something else too, something she’d never experienced before as a healer. She didn’t just feel sympathetic for him, didn’t want to merely make his pain go away. She felt drawn to him, and not only on a physical level. She could understand that after resting her head on his hard body. He was more masculine than anyone she’d ever met. Even after what had obviously been repeated beatings, he seemed stronger than any man could be. So her physical attraction she understood.

But there was something else. After only a few hours near him, she realized with sadness that she’d miss him when he released her. But why? She knew little about him, and what she knew wasn’t good. He was Amon Kalins, the escaped prisoner from Nil. She’d been warned, as all other Aeveren healers had, not to help him in any way. She hadn’t had a choice, though. His wretched man had kidnapped her from her home and when she saw him suffering before her, nature had taken over. Healing him had never been a choice but a need.

“Thea, don’t be afraid. I told you I wouldn’t let any harm come to you, and I won’t. You’re safe as long as you’re with me.”

The tone of his deep voice was softer now, but it didn’t make her feel any better. She remained fearful, her fingers tightly gripping the drawer handle behind her.

“You’re Amon Kalins...” she squeaked out as her voice failed her. The hard surface of the dresser pressed against her back when she attempted to take another step back away from him.

     “Yes.”

     “The escaped prisoner from Nil.”

     “Yes.”

Thea’s body relaxed almost against her will. Each affirmation should have made her fear for her safety all the more, but it didn’t. Something in his voice soothed her.

“And you’re a tempuster?” This the Council hadn’t mentioned in its edict to healers.

     “Yes.”

In all her lifetimes, she’d never met any Aeveren with the power of time travel. Amon Kalins must be a very powerful man, she realized.

“Is it my ability that frightens you?” he asked in a voice she was sure was intended to put her at ease.

Thea thought about this for a moment and answered in a small voice, “No.”

His being a tempuster was probably the least frightening aspect of him. The truth was she was most frightened of how much she already liked him. She shouldn’t. She knew this. But something about him called to her.

“Then my being a prisoner from Nil?”

Thea drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly. “I’m not supposed to help you.”

“Why? You’re a healer. It’s your gift. Why would you be banned from healing someone who needs your help?”

Thea was ashamed to admit that she’d never considered this question, not when she was ordered not to heal him nor all the other times those who dictated her power ordered her not to help another in need. How many times had she followed edicts and watched half-breeds or full blooded Aeveren suffer needlessly for breaking one of the many rules of their world?

The thought of her blind heartlessness made her shoulders droop and the regret she suddenly felt overwhelmed her. Sadly, she explained, “The Council ordered all healers to not help you. Under no circumstances were any of us to heal you.” As she spoke the words of the edict, she felt guilty not because she had helped him, but because for the first time in her forty-five lifetimes she’d truly lived up to her nature.

“But you did. Not that we gave you a chance to follow your orders.”

“Now I don’t know what will happen to me. When they find out what I did...”

Thea’s voice trailed off as she thought of how the Council would punish her for healing Amon. As she winced at the thought of her reprimand, Amon clenched his fists at his side. Thea saw the anger in his expression and wasn’t sure how to react. She was reasonably sure his anger wasn’t because of her, but something in him had changed.

     “Are you in pain?”

Amon relaxed his hands. “No.” Slowly, his face returned to the handsome, albeit bruised, expression he seemed to usually have. Thea stepped forward toward him and carefully placed her hands on both sides of his face. She didn’t know why as he’d said he wasn’t in pain, but something in her pushed her toward his bruised face.

The swollen left eye had returned to normal, and she felt the gaze of his ocean blue eyes on her as she coaxed the pain out of his features. Gradually, the slash under his eye closed until all that was left was a faint pink line. The light purple bruises that marked near his jaw and above his eyes, remnants from a prior assault than the one on his last night in Nil, faded under her light touch as the pads of her fingertips softly glided over his skin.

Amon sat stunned by her unsolicited help. As she focused on healing him, she saw him study her, his breathing turning to shallow pants and sensed his desire when she saw him lick his lips. As a healer, she wasn’t gifted with the ability to read minds, but her power came with the complementary ability of being able to read others’ reactions better than other Aeveren.

That something inside her that had pushed her toward him now told her to kiss him, and she leaned in and gently pressed her lips to one of the pale black and purple marks on his forehead. When she finally pulled away, she saw his eyes were closed and his face was calmer than at any time since she’d met him the night before.

Her mind raced. Should she apologize for kissing him, even if it was just on his skin? She’d never wanted to do anything like that ever before with anyone else she’d been charged to heal. But nothing about being near this man was like anything she’d ever experienced before.

Unsure of how to act, she found it difficult to know what to do next, and words began to tumble out of her mouth. “I’m sorry...I didn’t mean...I don’t know why...”

Amon opened his eyes as Thea felt the color rising in her cheeks. She may have been saying she was sorry and claiming she didn’t know why she’d kissed him, but she was still positioned right next to his face.

“No need to apologize. In fact, there’s no need to stop.”

A sound of surprise escaped her lips and her eyes grew wide at the idea that there was more to come. Her heart pounded in her chest as his deep blue eyes stared into hers. Would he kiss her now? All at once, she realized she wanted so much to feel his lips on hers.

Friday Thoughts and The Weekend Creation Hop

"Your time is limited. Don't waste it living someone else's life."
-Steve Jobs

I don't have an iPad, an iPhone, or an iPod, and I've never owned an Apple computer.  I guess I live in some other century, but I did note the passing of Apple's Steve Jobs and was moved by the quote attributed to him above.

So many people make plans to be something and never get around to actually being that something.  Tomorrow never comes and life gets in the way, so they never climb that mountain, real or metaphorical, and it remains something that was always a plan and nothing else. Or they get lost in the form and function of being whatever they want to be and never actually do much of anything.

So often in life we get trapped in a cycle of actions that we don't even realize are holding us back.  Fear can do that to you, and before you know it you've convinced yourself that a poor substitute for what you want is enough.

In the spirit of the life Steve Jobs lived, here's to all of us living the life we all dream of.

This weekend is the last before Destiny Redeemed's release, so I have to send out ARCs to reviewers and make sure the formatting is right before I upload to Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Smashwords. In celebration of the release and my dear friend Shah's Weekend Creation Hop, here's the blurb and an excerpt from the book.

Between fate and destiny stands their love...

As a healer, Thea has served her people for 45 lifetimes, never having a destined one and always knowing each lifetime would ultimately end with her alone. But destiny hasn't forgotten her.

Drawn to the seductive Amon, Thea quickly becomes a pawn the Council uses to trap him. Taken prisoner by the sadistic leader of the rebel group, the Soren, Thea must survive the vicious world of the people hellbent on taking her destined one away forever, and Amon must risk everything dear to him to free her from those who would sacrifice her to claim the bigger prize and return him to Nil.

Excerpt:
Amon looked up at the terrified woman standing in front of him and pity for her washed over him. As she stood frozen, he spoke to her, hoping to calm her fears.
“What’s your name?”
The woman stood as silent as a statue, her gaze fixed on the floor.
“Tell him your name,” Gethen said in a low, menacing voice.
Amon grimaced at his friend’s threatening tone and repeated his question. When she didn’t answer again, he added, “Please don’t be frightened. Gethen won’t hurt you. He’s just worried about me. I promise you’re in no danger in my home.”
Slowly, she lifted her eyes to his right leg. Without a word, she moved to the opposite side of the bed and focused intently on the injury.
Amon watched in apprehension as she stared at the main source of his pain. She seemed to forget anyone but the two of them were in the room. When she moved to touch his leg, he flinched and groaned, “No,” but she seemed oblivious to his refusal.
Gently, she touched just below his knee, and Amon waited for the searing pain to return with a vengeance. Eyes closed, holding his breath, he waited, but only relief came. His pain ebbed away, and when he was convinced it wouldn’t be back at least while she touched him, he allowed himself to exhale fully and slowly opened his eyes.
The left eye was still swollen, but through his right eye he studied the creature that had just taken his pain away. For the first time since she’d entered the room, he noticed how placid her face was. Long blond hair softly framed her face, falling in tendrils toward her waist, and pale blue eyes looked to his leg, as if she were willing him better.
Amon’s study of her was broken only by Gethen’s shifting positions against the door frame as he nervously watched her do as he’d commanded.  The noise interrupted her focus, and she looked up into Amon’s face. He winced expecting the pain to return, and she slowly moved to touch his face near his swollen eye.
“Thea,” he heard her whisper as she gingerly placed her right hand over his left eye.
Involuntarily, he relaxed and closed both eyes as a sense of calm flowed over him. He wasn’t sure how long he lay there with her soft touch on him, but he felt the loss instantly when she moved away.
He opened his eyes in time to see her sway back toward the wall. He reached out to grab her, but in his weakened condition, he knew he’d only be able to support her for just seconds before she fell to the floor.
“Gethen!”
The man raced around the bed to catch her as she slipped from Amon’s hold. As he held her limp body in his arms, he looked to Amon with a confused look for guidance as to what to do with yet another hurt person.
“Place her next to me here,” he said pointing to the unoccupied half of the king size bed he lay in.
As Gethen did as he requested, he asked, “What happened?”
“Aeveren healers can become overwhelmed if the person they’re healing is severely injured. Considering the amount of pain I had before she touched me and how little I have now in both my leg and my eye, it’s not surprising she found it to be too much.”
Amon inched up into a sitting position and looked down at Thea as she lay motionless next to him. He regretted Markku having to take her against her will and having to hold her there, but the effect of just her brief healing touch was wonderful.
Looking up at Gethen, he whispered, “I’m tired, friend. Dim the lights and let me rest for a while.”
“Do you think that’s wise? She may wake up and hurt you.”
“Gethen, she’s a healer.”
“Amon, she bit Markku downstairs.”
Smiling, Amon joked, “That’s Markku. She wouldn’t be the first person to want to harm him, and certainly not the first woman. And she had the right to fight back. She’s not here of her own free will.”
Gethen continued, undeterred. “I’m just worried she may try to leave.”
“Then you can remain outside the door, if you’d like. But I’m sure downstairs would be fine and far more comfortable. There’s only one door to the outside, and it’s on the first floor.”
Gethen accepted Amon’s argument and dimmed the ceiling light until the room glowed a pale amber color. He closed the door with one last glance back at him, and Amon listened as he made his way down the stairs.
Sleep began to come over him and he welcomed it like an old friend absent from his life for what seemed like years. For the first time in almost twelve months, he was in a bed and his body didn’t ache so much it would keep him up all night. And for the first time in all those months, he wasn’t alone. He inhaled deeply and let the air out of his lungs slowly, savoring the safety he felt.
Turning to look at the woman next to him, he watched as she lay silently still except for her breathing. Her hands seemed so small until his gaze traveled the length of her body and he saw all of Thea was small. She’d seemed so much larger as she stood over him, but the person he saw beside him now was petite. As he noticed this, sleep took over and his eyelids drooped closed.
