Thank You!

It's been a wild year for me as a writer. I've always dreamed of doing this job full time, and last fall that opportunity came and I ran with it. Since December, I've been a full time author, and I've been loving every minute of it!

In February, I was blessed with becoming a New York Times bestseller with my K.M. Scott book Give In To Me. It was a huge honor and meant so much to me. Now I've been blessed again, this time with my Gabrielle Bisset name. Yesterday I found out that the Spice Box set, which contains my book Blood Avenged, hit the New York Times bestseller list at #6.  I think it's sweet knowing it was with a Sons of Navarus book (Vasilije has always thought of himself as a bestseller). :)

Thank you to all the incredible fans out there who read my books and keep coming back for more. I promise to keep delivering the stories for a long time to come.

Blood Avenged On #Audiobook #PNR

Happy Friday, everyone! It's going to be a snowy one in the Northeast here, but it's February and that's expected. We just have to grin and bear it. It's been a great week for me, and the title of this post is one of the reasons why. Blood Avenged is finally out in audiobook!

The narrator John and I began working on this project in October. Things got in the way and I think at some point both of us must have wondered if this book was ever going to get into audio. But I loved his voice, so I decided to stick it out and see what happens. I'm so glad I did. He just did an incredible job, and Vasilije has never sounded so sexy.

I have to admit that hearing the words I wrote made me blush more than once. That book is HOT, if I do say so myself. LOL  To hear a preview of the book, be sure to check it out online at Amazon, Audible, and iTunes.

It's just too cool that one of my books can now be heard in addition to read. I guess I'm sort of nerdy with that stuff, but it really puts a smile on my face. And a huge thanks to John Lazaro, the man with the oh-so-deep-and-sexy voice who did an incredible job narrating!

In addition to that great news is a new cover for Destiny Redeemed. Weeeeeee! I have to admit I loved the old cover, but I wondered if it was time for an update, so I contacted designer extraordinaire, Talina Perkins, and told her to have at it, with only one caveat: the model for Amon must stay (I love him! Mmmmmm....).  The result is just perfect! She used her creative genius to design a background that reflected her vision of Nil, the Aeveren prison where Amon begins Destiny Redeemed, and I love it! I haven't changed the cover yet at the retailers, but you can get a free copy of the book with the original cover at all the major outlets right now. Happy reading!

And last, but certainly not least, is the news that Blood Prophecy, the 4th novel in the Sons of Navarus series, is complete at 81K words. For those of you wondering, that's 21K longer than Blood Avenged and nearly 16K words more than Blood Betrayed and Blood Spirit.

This baby is big!

Blood Prophecy is a turning point in the series, and there's so much story the book is busting at the seams. Readers will get the love affair between Ramiel and his heroine, in addition to the non-romantic storyline of Ramiel and Thane searching for the key to the Prophecy of Idolas; more on Verrater, who the last we heard had plans to kidnap Solenne; more on Vasilije and Sasa, who have been having some problems as of late (if you haven't read the two shorts Longing and The Deepest Cut, be sure to grab those before Blood Prophecy comes out); an introduction really to Sion and Kali, who are falling for each other but very different characters to anyone else in the series; and last but not least, a brand new main character who will be with the series from now on, in addition to the other paranormal characters who will be joining the Sons in their fight against the Archons. Oh, and there's even a Greek god in on the action!

Yeah, it's big. Look for Blood Prophecy this spring, and in the months leading up to its release, I'll be touring around the blogs talking about all things Sons as readers get ready to read the biggest Sons of Navarus book yet.

Whew! It's been quite a week. I need a day off. Now if only that snow would get here maybe my school would cancel classes and I could sit back with a hot chocolate and relax.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Blood Avenged #Vampires in #NOLA

When I began writing Blood Avenged in the summer of 2011, I was offered the opportunity to travel to New Orleans for the very first time to attend the Anne Rice Vampire Lestat Halloween Ball. I jumped at the chance, and from the moment I stepped into the French Quarter, I was in love with the city.

I love to set my books in exotic and fabulous settings, and with New Orleans I had an incredibly sensual backdrop perfect for a book about an incredibly sensual vampire. Vasilije is everything New Orleans is. Hot, steamy, seductive, delicious.

Being in The Big Easy gave me the opportunity to do on-site research for the story, and it's one of the things I'm proudest of with that first Sons of Navarus book. The scenes described are the result of being able to walk (and ride the fabulous streetcars) around New Orleans to appreciate the unique and wonderful vibe that city has. I'm always so thrilled when a reader says, "I loved reading about the city in Blood Avenged. Is it really like that?"

It is and more! I fell in love with New Orleans and my main character Vasilije on that trip. Blood Avenged is as much a book about Vasilije and erotic vampires as it is about the great city of New Orleans.

For more on Blood Avenged (including a very sexy excerpt), visit my website at http://www.gabriellebisset.com/blood-avenged-sons-of-navarus-1.html and to see more pictures about the book, check out Blood Avenged's Pinterest board at http://pinterest.com/gabriellebisset/blood-avenged-sons-of-navarus-1/

And watch for the audiobook version of Blood Avenged coming soon!

Blood Avenged Up For Best Erotica Novel of 2012

I'm thrilled to say Blood Avenged is up for Best Erotica Novel of 2012 over at Preditors and Editors Readers' Poll. I'm so far into the Sons of Navarus series now that I don't think about that book a lot anymore, but it is the one that started the series off.

I loved writing that book. To be honest (shhhh...come closer. I don't want everyone to hear this LOL), I don't love writing everything as much as I did Blood Avenged. Vasilije was a pleasure to write. I still don't know why. I'm not really anything like him nor is he necessarily like someone I fantasize about. (In truth, I'm more a Saint or Sion woman.) But writing Blood Avenged was pure joy.

That someone loved the book enough to nominate it is such a wonderful feeling. Thanks to them and to everyone who gives it their vote.  If you'd like to give it a nod, head on over to Preditors and Editors. I appreciate it. <3

Buy Blood Avenged and Support #Redcross #Relief

All day today, Monday, November 5, all proceeds from sales of Blood Avenged at Amazon will be donated to the Red Cross to help with Hurricane Sandy relief. Please help by grabbing a copy there today. It's an erotic paranormal romance, but even if that genre isn't your taste, it's for a good cause. Remember, if you own a copy already, you can always buy another and gift it to someone.

Thanks for helping me help the people who need it most after this devastating storm.

Grab Blood Avenged For A Good Cause #redcross #relief

I spent the last few days glued to the television watching the devastation on the East coast unfold before my eyes. As the child of New Yorkers and a Jersey girl by birth, it breaks my heart to see the places and people I've always held so dear in my heart suffer. Up and down the coast, the mess that Hurricane Sandy has left is heartbreaking.

The terrible scenes made me want to do something, so this Monday, November 5, all proceeds from the sale of my book Blood Avenged at Amazon will be donated to the Red Cross to help in the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Please help by grabbing a copy there that day. It's an erotic paranormal romance, but even if that genre isn't your taste, it's for a good cause.

Thanks for helping me help the people who need it most after this devastating storm.

#WIP Wednesday and The Fling

I'm over at Page Flipperz with an interview for today's stop on the Paranormal Fall Fling, so if you want to know all the deep dark secrets about me, head on over. :)  And be sure to enter for this week's swag giveaway and the grand prize giveaway in the Fling!

Onto WIPs...I've been focusing on Vasilije and Sasa's short and plan to post it on my website later this week. It's been an interesting process writing about Vasilije again because in some ways he's changed since he's become a secondary character in Blood Betrayed and Blood Spirit. He's more official and often more expressive toward Sasa.

Readers who have read Blood Spirit know that the couple has encountered problems recently, and this has caused me to look at him and see some different things I'd forgotten. But I'm always happy writing Vasilije. Who wouldn't be? He's pure pleasure.

Blood Prophecy has presented me with some decisions recently. I've always said this would be a turning point in the series, and the path I've begun to take will definitely make this clear to readers. I have no release date for this book yet, though.

And I've been keeping this on the down low, but I'm working with a producer to make Blood Avenged into an audio book! It has been such a learning experience. The narrator I'm working with is fantastic, and I love his voice. But be forewarned:  I didn't request him to do it because he sounds like Vasilije. His voice was perfect because it had the right tone for the book. I don't know when it will be available, but as soon as it is, I'll be screaming it from the rooftops!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

#Paranormalromance Friday

Welcome to another Friday! I've always loved Fridays, possibly more than any other day of the week. It's both the end of the workweek and the beginning of the weekend--the best of both worlds!

So what's new in my paranormal romance world?  The men of the Sons of Navarus are all over the place today. Last night, Shiela Stewart posted both Vasilije's and Saint's covers on her site Book Cover Lovers. Love that name! You can see Vasilije HERE and Saint HERE. Stop by with some love! And Blood Avenged is the star of Jane Wakely's Cover Mania today.

So to continue the celebration of the Sons and their gorgeous covers, I'm doing a giveaway at the Sons of Navarus FB page starting today and running through the end of the month. One winner will get a signed copy of Blood Avenged. Stop by and enter today!  I'll choose the winner randomly on July 1.

I'll be working on the last few chapters of Blood Spirit this weekend. It's coming down to the wire now.  The goal is to have the book in my editor's hands in July, the earlier the better, so it can be a September release.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Saint at RomCon and I'm On The Airwaves Tonight

Today is a busy day.  Saint is over at RomCom's erotic blog chatting with Chris, the fantastic woman who runs the blog, so I want to make sure I stop over there and see that he's behaving.  Saint can be anything but a saint sometimes. ;) One lucky commenter will win a $5 Amazon Gift Card, so stop over there and say hi.

Tonight I'm on Elaine Raco Chase's radio talk show.  I'm a little nervous.  I've done this before and it went beautifully (thank you, Desmond!), so I just have to remember that.  I'm scheduled to be on from 8:45-9:05.  Readers can listen in and even call in to the show at http://www.trianglevarietyradio.com/

Today is also the last day to grab Blood Avenged at the sale price of $.99 at Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Grab it and begin the Sons of Navarus series.  You won't be disappointed.

And tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of my being a published author, so be sure to stop back for that post.  It's been such a wonderful year!

Have a great Thursday!

Alphas and Their Ladies

I'm over at the wonderful Malia Mallory's blog today talking about why I write about Alphas, so stop over and take a look.  If you love Alphas too, join in on the conversation and let me know why. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

While I usually spend my time talking about the heroes of my books, today the leading ladies are also front and center.  They were showcased at Heartthrob Haven recently where Sasa interviewed Solenne, and the girls let their hair down to give readers a better feel for who they are.  Stop over and comment for a chance to win a $5 Amazon gift card.  While their men are less than friendly toward one another, Sasa and Solenne are good friends.  Maybe some of that will rub off on Vasilije and Saint?

And after you get to know the heroines, you can still get both Blood Avenged and Blood Betrayed for less than $5 at Amazon and Barnes and Noble through the end of May.

Hot vampire heroes, sexy heroines, and a price you can't beat.  What better holiday sale is there for a romance reader?

#ParanormalRomance Friday

The end of the week is here, and I can even see the end of the month coming, but first there are some fun things happening before we get to the month of May.  Blood Avenged's book tour with Goddess Fish begins on Monday, and take a look at all these fantastic blogs I'll be visiting:

April 23: The Forbidden Bookshelf
April 24: Romancing the Book
April 25: The ParaNormal Romance Party
April 26: Black Velvet Seductions Blog
April 26: STOP #2 Dawn's Reading Nook
April 27: Cocktails and Books
April 30: Words of Wisdom from The Scarf Princess
April 30: Delighted Reader Book Reviews
May 1: Kacey's Konnections
May 2: Ramblings From This Chick
May 3: Erotica for All
May 3: STOP #2 For The Love of Reading
May 4: Reading Romances

I'm thrilled all these wonderful bloggers are giving me time at their blogs to chat about Blood Avenged, my Sons of Navarus series, and of course, Vasilije. I hope you'll stop by each day for all the interesting tidbits and giveaways.

And on Monday, April 23, in addition to the tour I'm participating in the Spring Fling Giveaway Hop.  Love is in the air, so what's better than a giveaway of some erotic love?  Be sure to stop back for that!

Blood Betrayed's edits are almost complete, so I'll begin posting excerpts soon, along with sending out emails to all the sites that have agreed to review the book. I've loved hanging out with Saint, Solenne, Vasilije, Sasa, and all the Sons of Navarus in this second book.  (Yes, Vasilije appears prominently in this book too.)  I've been writing Blood Spirit, and Terek's story has been wonderful fun.  I enjoy these characters a great deal, so writing their stories is a joy for me.  However, the reality of what's to come always lingers on the horizon. Nothing's written in stone, but a battle is coming and the Sons will need everything they possess to triumph over the Archons.

But not all will make it to the end...

Risky Sex Scenes

I've been putting the wraps on Blood Betrayed the past few days, but in my spare moments I stop over at FB, particularly the erotic authors and bloggers group I belong to, for some writing inspiration.  The pics rarely fail to deliver that inspiration, and I can't thank those authors and bloggers enough for the eye candy. Delicious! (Now I wish I hadn't taken down the adult warning on the blog.)

When I write in my other genre as my other pen name, I don't really have to write graphic sex scenes. True, they occasionally come up, but it's not a requirement. If it fits, I write it, but in my romance stories, it's expected since I don't write the sweet stuff. (My mind's too dirty to write the sweet stuff. ;) My books are erotic romance, so there must be sex and the steamier the better it seems, if the comments readers make are any indication.

In my current release, Blood Avenged, there's a scene where I walked a very fine line with Vasilije and Sasa. He's learned of something she's done and has come to kill her. He's a vampire, and unlike other sweeter, twinkly vampires, Vasilije will kill.  The fact that he has feelings for Sasa is immaterial. She's crossed him.  But she affects him in a way that no other woman has for centuries, so his desire to exact his revenge is met by another desire.

The scene is gritty--and one I was worried wouldn't work for some readers. And it's a long scene, taking up an entire chapter from his point of view and then moving into her point of view for an entire chapter. I generally don't use up that much space with foreplay and the act of sex, but this was different.  In many ways, those two chapters show Vasilije more clearly than any others in the book.

I bring this up because while I love those two chapters for their emotion and dark grittiness, I wasn't sure readers would, and it was only on the repeated advice of my editor that I didn't touch those pages and left them as I originally intended. A few reviewers have commented that they didn't like the scene (but in truth, they didn't like Vasilije, overall. I think that says more about their taste in men than the book itself, though.), but in a recent review, the reviewer mentioned the scene as one of her favorites. She seemed to misunderstand other parts of the book, but I was pleased she saw the scene for what it was.

Sex can be a difficult thing to write sometimes, especially if your characters aren't working with you or you're working against them and their natures. The sex scenes in Blood Avenged weren't difficult because I knew exactly what kind of characters Vasilije and Sasa were and I wasn't afraid to let them be who they are. I knew there was a chance that readers wouldn't want them to act like they did, but that was a chance as an author I needed to take to make the story what I wanted it to be.

Monday Fun

I'm over at Menagerie Authors for an interview with Megan and Kealie today,so stop over. They're great fun and always ask great questions. I'm also at Ginger Simpson's blog today talking about my two vampires, Vasilije and Saint, who are different as night and day. Stop in and say hi!

Also on for this Monday is the Proudly Paranormal Blog Hop, which continues today at J.D. Brown's blog.  She's giving away a copy of her new book, Dark Heirloom, so head on over there after you hit the first two stops and show some paranormal love. :)  And for a run-down of who's up next in the month long blog hop, stop over at the hop's page.

Today is the first official day of Spring Break for me, so I'm pumped.  And the great news is that I finished Blood Betrayed last night, so let the edits begin (well, let the typing begin, then the edits).

Have a fabulous Monday!

Proudly Paranormal

Welcome to my leg of the Proudly Paranormal Blog Hop!  The brainchild of author Adriana Ryan, it celebrates the paranormal genre in all its facets.  The hop runs all month, so expect to see all varieties of paranormal, from the erotic romance I write to the supernatural women's fiction Adriana writes, and all areas in between.

Since this is a hop dedicated to the Proudly Paranormal, of course I'm talking about my vampires in the Sons of Navarus series. The paranormal genre gives an author such freedom to write stories that are fantastic and imaginative.  In Blood Avenged, I had the chance to first introduce readers to my vampires' world and Vasilije, the book's main character.  In Vasilije, I give readers the first initial taste of my version of vampires--sensual, earthy, and dangerous.  He's unlike any character I've ever written, an unrepentant hedonist, and the paranormal genre is a place he can shine.

Vasilije is the quintessential vampire to me.  He preys on humans, turning them to please himself.  In another genre, this kind of character wouldn't work.  Hedonists are rarely appealing, but as a vampire, Vasilije exudes a very appealing air because of his hedonism.

And now as I finish the second book in the Sons of Navarus series, Blood Betrayed, I'm getting ready to introduce the second Son to the world.  Saint is very different from Vasilije, manifesting another set of characteristics of my vampires--haunted, brooding, and different.

The paranormal genre is perfect for Saint's character.  In the paranormal world of the vampire, he's right at home with his darkness.

I write in other genres and the historical always makes its way into all my writing (What can I say?  I'm a history prof!), but the paranormal is where I love to spend my time the most. It's the genre that gives me the most freedom to be creative, and I'm so thankful for that outlet.

Thanks for hopping by on this stop in the Proudly Paranormal Blog Hop.  One lucky commenter will win a $10 Amazon gift card and a set of bookmarks from the first three books in the Sons of Navarus series--Blood Avenged, Blood Betrayed, and Blood Spirit.  Just be sure to include your email address in your comment so I can contact you when you win.  Good luck!

And watch for posts all month long from other authors who are proudly paranormal! Next up on Monday, March 5:  Author J.D. Brown

The Romance Reviews Anniversary Party

Happy Friday, everyone!  It's been a long week, but as of 3:50 this afternoon, I'm on Spring Break until March 12.  Yaaaaaahoooo!

Today, Blood Avenged is highlighted at The Romance Reviews Anniversary Party, so head on over and check out all the fun and games the wonderful people at TRR have planned.  It's like a book scavenger hunt with questions you can answer (there are clues, so don't worry if you haven't read all the books) and prizes. The party goes on all month, so don't miss out!

And don't miss my post tomorrow in the Proudly Paranormal Blog Hop.  I'm giving away a $10 Amazon gift card and a set of bookmarks from the first three books in the Sons of Navarus series.

Have a great Friday!

Blood Avenged at Kindle Spice and Other Thoughts

Blood Avenged is featured at Kindle Spice today, with Vasilije in all his glory there.  He does spice up the place, doesn't he? ;)  And here's another goody with the delicious vampire:  the cover of his print book.  I love it!!  Talina has knocked that ball out of the park with this one, hasn't she?

On other fronts, there seems to have been some dust up at a paranormal blog I love in the last day or so.  Unfortunately, an author disliked a review and voiced her opinion about it.  I certainly understand the frustration of a review that isn't complimentary, but that kind of opinion needs to stay with friends over a decent amount of alcohol.  I have days when I read a review of one of my books and think, "WTF?  Did this person even read the book?"  Basic errors about the plot or the main characters make me think they've skimmed, at best, and spelling and grammar errors in a review that criticizes my writing are infuriating, to say the least.  But the reviewer never knows what I think.  Only my friends and editor do, and after we've hashed out what we really think (usually over too much beer), it's done.  I don't go back to reviewers who I believe don't do a good job.  Period.  There's no bitching and arguing.  I just take them off the list.

The author who had a problem at this site yesterday should consider this method over the one she's chosen.  Just my opinion.

I'm on a number of author loops and have seen a rise in the animosity toward reviewers in the past few months.  I think the proliferation of book review blogs is actually hurting the better bloggers because there are some who just put up a blog and think they can attack at will.  Authors are naturally lumping all the bloggers together, and the bad ones are affecting how authors see all bloggers.  It's too bad for the ones who are thoughtful and careful with what the write, but I see it happening more and more.

Finally, I was at Dear Author's site the other day (about something with my first publisher) and saw a discussion about indie authors padding their Amazon reviews with those of friends, fellow writers, and even reviews written by themselves in fake names.  I know of one author in particular who does this routinely, in addition to the one discussed at Dear Author.  The reviews aren't from reviewers, bloggers, or strangers but fellow writers and the writer herself.  Always 5 stars, they gush about how wonderful the book is, but I have to wonder why she feels the need to do this?  If you're selling well, why act like this?

Indies who cheat the system don't help themselves or the indie movement at all.  Cheating never pays off in the long run.  (I sound like I'm talking to my students, but it's true.)  What you know or don't know and what you're good at or aren't good at always comes to light in the end.  Cheating just puts that day off a bit, but it's always going to come.  And it makes people who are skeptical about indie publishing in the first place feel that their dislike of it is justified when they find out an indie has been gaming the system.  Bad joujou for those authors.

I'm off to do the home school thing and then write later this afternoon.  The details about the other Sons have been worked into Blood Betrayed and the end is ready.  Hope everyone has a good one!

Two Great Reviews For Blood Avenged And Goodies For Readers

Yesterday was quite a day for reviews here.  Blood Avenged garnered two great ones.  Night Owl Reviews gave it 4.5 stars and said, "A very well written and emotionally exhaustive paranormal romance book! I loved it! I love finishing a book and thinking, "Wow, I've got no more left"! Bisset is rapidly climbing up in the world of PNR and is a definite must-watch-for writer! I can't wait for the next book in her new Sons of Navarus series!"

And Just Erotic Romance Reviews gave it 5 stars and said, "When you put a great character like Vasilije in a beautifully written story like Blood Avenged you score an instant hit. I can't wait to read more from Ms. Bisset!"

Click on the links for the entire reviews.  They're much longer than what I include here, especially the NOR one.
Also, you may have noticed above this post the big pink graphic. To show my appreciation for the wonderful readers out there, my novella Love's Master will be on sale for $.99 February 11-18 at both Amazon and Barnes and Noble. For a little sample of the story, click on the graphic at the top of the post.

Finally, don't forget the TWO Valentine's giveaway hops I'm doing.  The Vampires for Valentines Day giveaway begins Friday, and the With Love giveaway begins Saturday.  Don't miss them!  There will be swag, giftcards, and even paperback books to win, so make sure to come by!

Blood Betrayed So Far...

Thanks to a terrific schedule this semester, I've had far more time to devote to writing, which is fantastic.  If the work gods smile on me, I'll have even more time for the fall.  (More on that if it happens.  Keep fingers crossed.)  In addition to most nights, two days during the week I can devote to writing, and of course, all day Saturday is a given in that department.

Last night I wrote a scene between Vasilije and Saint, and I love how those two work off each other.  Vasilije is so smooth and almost smug at times with Saint.  There's almost a brother dynamic to their banter, and as easily as Vasilije's words come out of my pen, Saint's flow even nicer.  Smooth is great, but I love writing a smart ass.  :)

In addition, I've enjoyed creating Saint's relationship with Solenne.  While my female leads are never tender flower types,  none have ever been as strong as Solenne.  I'm not a huge fan of super-tough heroines.  They tend to get in the way of what the hero needs to do.  I can't tell you how often I've wanted to throw a book across the room (or throw my Kindle across the room) because some female character is in the way of what the hero should be doing or adding to his problems by doing stupid things.  So I've been very careful to make Solenne the kind of strong that complements Saint instead of hindering him.

Following up Vasilije has been a real challenge for me, but I think readers will enjoy Saint's darkness in Blood Betrayed.  I do love me a tortured soul!  And I get to introduce more focal points in the vampire world I'm creating.  The Archons are far more involved in this story, and the prophecy the Sons need to figure out is beginning to be revealed to readers.

I'm still looking at a May release for Blood Betrayed.  Depending on how the action flows now that things are coming together in the story, it may be an early May release, though.  Then it's on to Blood Spirit, which I'm still planning to release in the fall, but I might sneak in a summertime novella before I jump into the third book in the Sons series.  I'll have to see what I can fit in, but the trilogy of novellas I planned out a few months ago is still waiting.

Keep checking back for more on Saint and Blood Betrayed. I'll be posting snippets in the upcoming months as things draw to the end. And, of course, I'll be sure to give readers a sneak peak of the sexy side of the book!
